Everland vs Lotte World: which one should you pick?
Korea has two headline theme parks, and they're different enough that the choice usually makes itself once you know your trip. Short version: Everland is the big destination park outside the city; Lotte World is the convenient one inside Seoul with a giant indoor section.
Lotte World — the in-city pick
- Where: Jamsil, eastern Seoul — literally connected to Jamsil Station (Line 2/8), Exit 4. Zero planning needed.
- What it is: Adventure, one of the world's largest indoor theme parks (rides, parades, an ice rink below), plus Magic Island, an outdoor section on Seokchon Lake with the castle everyone photographs.
- Rough prices: adult one-day pass around ₩60,000 at the gate — but online foreigner discounts are common and can be steep, so buy ahead.
- Best for: rainy or freezing days, evening visits, travelers on a tight schedule, K-drama castle photos. Lotte World Tower/mall and the lake walk are next door — it combines into a full Jamsil day; see the Seoul guide.
- Downside: coasters are tamer — thrill-seekers may leave wanting more.
Everland — the destination park
- Where: Yongin, Gyeonggi-do — roughly an hour southeast of Seoul depending on traffic.
- What it is: Korea's largest theme park — five themed zones, big seasonal flower festivals, a zoo area (Panda World), and the star attraction: T Express, a genuinely world-class wooden coaster.
- Getting there: direct buses are easiest — e.g. 5002 from Gangnam Station (Exit 10), about 50–60 min; 5700 from Jamsil. By rail: subway to Giheung → Everline light rail to the end → free shuttle to the gate. Tour-bus packages with hotel-area pickup also exist.
- Rough prices: adult one-day pass around ₩60,000–70,000 at the gate; discounted foreigner tickets online are the norm — rarely pay gate price.
- Best for: a full day out, coaster fans, families (zoo + gardens), spring tulips and autumn events.
- Downside: travel time eats the day — go early. Outdoor rides pause in heavy rain.
Decide in 10 seconds
- Only 3–4 days in Seoul, want convenience: Lotte World.
- Chasing thrills / T Express: Everland, no contest.
- Rain or winter cold in the forecast: Lotte World (indoor).
- Traveling with kids & a free full day: Everland edges it (zoo, space, parades).
- Doing both? Put Everland on the clearest-weather day.
Shared tips
- Go on a weekday if humanly possible — weekend queues for top rides are long.
- Both parks' apps show live wait times; both sell timed queue-skip products for popular rides (names and rules change — check the app on the day).
- Hours vary by season and day — check the official site the night before.
- Buy tickets online in advance: cheaper and skips the booth line.
- Cashless is fine everywhere; grab a T-money card for buses — see money & payments.
