How Foreigners Buy K-pop Concert and Fan Meeting Tickets in Korea

Global ticket sites, passport rules, pickup, refunds and the new anti-scalping law, checked August 2026

Buying a concert or fan-meeting ticket in Korea is not hard, but it is strict. The big sellers run separate English sites for overseas buyers, the name on your account is locked to your passport, and entry is refused when the booking and the ID at the gate do not match. On top of that, a revised Performance Act that takes effect on 28 August 2026 lets the government fine ticket resellers up to 50 times the sale amount (Seoul Economic Daily; SCMP, 2026-08-23 confirmed).

This guide explains the principles that stay the same even when the websites change their layout: which site to use, what to prepare before sale day, how identity checks work, how cancellations are charged, and how to reach the main arenas. It does not cover artists' schedules or any resale service.

Which ticket site do foreigners use?

Overseas fans use the global editions of the Korean ticket sites. Each organizer picks one seller per show, so you cannot choose; you follow the link in the official announcement.

Fan-club presales usually require two things: an active paid membership bought on the artist's platform, and linking that membership to your ticket-site account before the presale opens. Do the linking as soon as the notice appears, not on sale day.

Before sale day: five things to prepare

  1. Create the account early. YES24 asks buyers to finish identity verification one or two days before sales because verification is not instant (YES24 Global FAQ, 2026-08-23 confirmed). NOL World likewise asks you to prepare your passport before verification.
  2. Type your name exactly as printed in your passport. Every site above locks the name after sign-up or verification. A nickname, a missing middle name or a different spelling can mean a refused ticket at the venue.
  3. Prepare an overseas-issued card. YES24 Global accepts major credit cards with 3-D Secure authentication but not China UnionPay; PayPal is offered only when the show is more than 180 days away, with a non-refundable fee of 10 cents (YES24 Global FAQ). Other sites list their own accepted methods on the product page, so read it before the sale.
  4. Convert the sale time to your time zone. Sales open in Korean time; check the opening time with a time-zone converter rather than from memory.
  5. Read the product notice once, slowly. It states the seller, the verification rule, the ticket format (mobile or pickup), the cancellation deadline and any restricted-view seats. Those terms override the general site policy.

How sale day works

On sale day you log in before the opening time and wait in a queue. NOL World allows only one queue position per account; opening queues on several devices or browsers at once closes the existing queue automatically (NOL World event page, 2026-08-23 confirmed). Melon Ticket Global warns you not to close the browser after entering your information, because you would have to start over (Melon sign-up page).

Abnormal or fraudulent purchase methods such as macro programs lead to cancellation of the booking (NOL World event page). Use one account, one device, a normal browser.

Identity checks at the venue

Korean concerts are tied to a named buyer. The rules you will meet:

Carry the same physical passport you used to sign up. The sites do not promise to accept photocopies or app scans, so do not rely on them.

Cancellation and refund rules

Korea has a national default for performance refunds, the Consumer Dispute Resolution Standards, which applies when the seller has no separate agreement (Easy to Find Practical Law, Ministry of Government Legislation, 2026-08-23 confirmed):

If the organizer cancels, or substantially changes the show, the standard adds compensation of 10% of the ticket price on top of the refund.

Sellers publish their own schedules that follow this pattern. YES24 Global charges nothing within 7 days of purchase, then 4,000 won per ticket for concerts and musicals (2,000 won for other genres) until 10 days before, then 10%, 20% and 30% as the show approaches; a booking made inside the final 10 days is charged even if it is within 7 days of purchase. Its cut-off is 5 p.m. the day before for Tuesday-to-Saturday shows and 11 a.m. on Saturday for Sunday and Monday shows (YES24 Global cancellation policy). NOL World processes cancellations only during Korean business hours, weekdays 10:00 to 18:00 KST, with fees set per product and card refunds taking about 5 to 7 business days (NOL World cancellation policy).

Resale: what the 2026 law changes

Since March 2024 the law has targeted macro-assisted resale (fines up to 10 million won) (SCMP). Amendments to the Performance Act and the National Sports Promotion Act passed the National Assembly on 29 January 2026, were promulgated on 28 February 2026 (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), and take effect on 28 August 2026 (Seoul Economic Daily; SCMP). From that date:

For a visitor the practical rule is simple: if you cannot attend, cancel through the site. In a Munhwa Ilbo Q&A, a ministry official explained that cancelling is the principle, and that even a single personal ticket sold at a large mark-up can be penalised. Also remember that a ticket bought from a stranger sits under someone else's verified name, so it can fail the gate check above even before the law is considered.

After a large show the nearest station is crowded. NOL World's venue pages suggest walking to a second station (Hanseong Baekje for KSPO Dome, Gaebong or Guro for Gocheok) or to a main road before calling a taxi, and note that the subway closes before 12AM, so check last-train times. Q. Can I buy a Korean concert ticket without a Korean phone number?
Yes. The global editions verify identity with passport details instead of a Korean phone number. Use the seller named in the official announcement for that show.

Q. What name should I register?
Your name exactly as printed in your passport. All the global sites lock the name after sign-up or verification, and entry is refused when the booking name and the ID at the gate differ.

Q. Can I pay with my home-country card?

INSPIRE Arena, which is on Yeongjong Island near the airport: a free resort shuttle runs 15 times a day and a taxi from Terminal 1 takes about 15 minutes.
